What is Christianity?
What is Christianity?
What does being a Christian mean?
I’ve observed Christians for over 20 years from the inside out.
I was born again on August 11TH 1988 at about 4:30PM on a Thursday evening. I started preaching 3 years
later and became a full-time Pastor and Bible Teacher in 1997, after 9 years of walking with the Lord.
Here’s what I’ve noticed, we live in an instant society with a Drive-thru mentality and this mind-set is in
the Christian Church.
Sunday morning we pull in and park ourselves in the pews hoping to receive something that will change
our lives and give us control over the circumstances we face daily.
But the average Christian isn’t seriously looking for change!
He doesn’t want anything that would call for too much sacrifice and effort on his part, just something to put some more money in his pocket and make his life a little easier.
We are surely turning into the Laodicean Church of the Book of Revelation. Something is dreadfully wrong with our mindset and we need to fix it urgently.
The average Christian has a “Christian life” and a “normal life” which they try their best to keep separate from each other.
Some of us wear our Christianity only when it suits us and take it off when it doesn’t. And the sad thing is; this seems normal to most… The average Christian thinks that’s the way it should be.
The truth is; that for the true born again Believer there is no duality of experience. We are who we are, representatives of the Kingdom of God, everywhere we go and in everything we do.
For any real change to take place in our lives there must be a change in our philosophy of life, how we perceive the world around us.
What is Christianity?
Both Jesus Christ and His cousin, John the Baptist began their ministry by saying exactly the same thing.
Repent! For the Kingdom of God is at Hand.
That is not a religious statement! Neither John nor Jesus was religious.
That’s a statement of deep, political, psychological and spiritual significance that when we understand and apply it, it will result in profound practical change in our lives.
The change we all need and are looking for desperately. The change that will bring financial; and every other kind of empowerment we desire.
Think about it, referring to Jesus Christ the Bible says, “…The government will be upon His shoulder… Of the increase of His government… there will be no end,” (Isa 9:6)
If that’s not a political statement then what is?
So, “Repent! For the kingdom of God is at hand” is a political statement because the kingdom refers to God’s governmental rule on earth.
The statement is psychological in nature because to “repent” as Jesus and John used it means to change your world-view, to change your philosophy of life and your perception of the world around you.
To repent is to see something in a way you’ve never seen it before and to allow this new perception to become the catalyst for profound change in your life.
Jesus and John were telling the Jews of their day that a new political system had arrived and they needed to respond favorably to it.
They were trying to explain to the people that all the promises God made to the Nation of Israel in the word of God were about to be fulfilled and they needed to prepare themselves for it.
True repentance is the shifting of a paradigm which occurs at the sub-conscious level and results in a conscious decision, followed by corresponding actions. So, “repenting” is psychological in nature.
Finally, this is a spiritual statement because it’s initiated by God who is a Spirit and because obedience to this statement will permanently transform your spiritual condition.
All that I’ve shared here is only the tip of the iceberg of the principles that govern God’s kingdom and of what being a Christian truly is.
The sad thing is that the average Christian has no idea of who she really is. She has a faulty concept of her true identity and destiny as a Child of God and Daughter of the King. She doesn’t understand the principles that govern her own kingdom!
She’s a Citizen of a Nation who doesn’t understand her own constitution, which is enshrined in the pages of the Bible.
The average Christian has no idea of his rights, duties and privileges as a citizen of the Kingdom of God.
The beginning of successful Christian living is first to understand how to apply the fundamental principles that govern the kingdom to which you belong.
That’s why the Bible says, Study to show yourselves approved, so that you won’t be ashamed.
Bible Study is an integral part of discovering who you are in the Kingdom of God.
Victorious and successful Christian living must begin with accurate knowledge and deep understanding of the principles of the kingdom of God as outlined in the Bible, the Word of God.
What is the Kingdom of God?
What is the Kingdom of God?
The Kingdom of God is the entire domain over which God rules.
It Encompasses 4 Realms:
1) The Spiritual Realm
2) The Physical Realm
3) The Internal Realm
4) The External Realm
The Kingdom of God consists of every area over which He exercises and demonstrates
The word “kingdom” is a contraction of “King’s Domain” or the “Domain of the king.”
The term “Dominion” means the authority and ability to rule over something or someone.
So, anywhere God’s authority and ability is ruling is the domain of God, where His
dominion is in effect and thus, His Kingdom.
The Spiritual Realm
In the Book of Revelations chapter 4 John the Apostle said, “Then as I looked, I saw a
door standing open in heaven, and the same voice I had heard before spoke to me like
a trumpet blast.
The voice said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must happen after this.”
And instantly I was in the Spirit, and I saw a throne in heaven and someone sitting on it.”
These verses confirm that Heaven is a spiritual realm.
The following verse confirms that Heaven is God’s Domain over which He rules, “But
the Lord is in his holy Temple; the Lord still rules from heaven.” Psalm 11:4
Satan tried to usurp God’s authority in Heaven he was caught and kicked out, so God
retained His complete dominion over The Spiritual Realm (Heaven).
The Physical Realm
The Bible says, “The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it. The world and all its
people belong to him.” Psalm 24:1 (NLT)
This verse confirms that the Earth is also God’s Domain which He rules over.
But the Bible shows us that He has given the day-to-day administration of the Earth
over to Human Beings.
Psalm 115:16 says, “The highest heavens belong to the LORD, but the earth he
has given to mankind.”
This made God’s dominion over the Physical Realm vulnerable to attack.
As a matter of fact, after failing his Coup in Heaven Satan tried to usurp authority in
the Earth and unfortunately partially succeeded.
He partially succeeded because God’s original Ambassador, Adam committed high
treason and rebelled against God’s authority obeying Satan.
This left a vacant spot for Satan to usurp Adam’s authority over Earth, which he did.
The Internal Realm
Now, since the time of Adam’s rebellion to now, God has been implementing His
Master Plan to restore the Earth to His complete dominion once more.
In order to fix the problem with the Earth God had to go to the source of the problem
which was Adam’s rebellion and to the source of the rebellion, which was Adam’s heart
and consequently the hearts of all his descendants which is The Internal Realm.
The problem of rebellion against God’s authority is a defect of the human heart and
in the Bible the heart symbolically represents the spirit and mind of man.
This is where God needed to start reclaiming His dominion – Over the spirits and minds
of men; this is why His primary command to the human race is to… Repent!
To repent is to change your mind so God can transform your spirit.
When we humble ourselves to God and seek His dominion over our lives we authorize
Him to transform our spirits so that His dominion can be re-established in our hearts.
When His dominion is re-established in our hearts during the ‘Born Again’ process we
give life to the doctrine that the Kingdom of God has come and it is within us.
The External Realm
After this amazing experience of becoming born again we now have the authority and
ability of God personally restored to us so that we can once more exercise and
What do we do with this dominion? We influence the culture of the societies in which
Everywhere we go, in whatever we do, as Born Again Christians we influence the
culture around us until it resembles the culture of Heaven.
This is the purpose of having our personal dominion restored.
The reason we are changed internally is to have an impact externally on which ever
society we live in (The External Realm).
The Bible says, “For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the
LORD, as the waters cover the sea. (Hab 2:14)
The word ‘earth’ is translated from the Hebrew word ‘erets’ which means Nations or
The phrase ‘filled with the knowledge’ means ‘to be pregnant with the revelation’.
So, ‘the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD’ can be
translated as ‘Societies shall become pregnant with the revelation of the glory of the
The word ‘glory’ here means weight and a weight is something that causes an impact.
If you drop a 10-pound weight on your foot it impacts your senses.
What causes an impact on Societies? What is the weight of a Society?
The weight of a society is its culture. The culture of a society is what influences or
The culture is the weight and the weight is the glory. The culture of a society is the glory
of that society.
For instance, the glory of ancient Rome was Roman culture. The glory of American
society is American culture.
Looking at that scripture once again we see, “The earth shall be filled with the
knowledge of the glory of the LORD” can be translated as, “Societies on earth
shall be filled with the revelation of the culture of Heaven’.
This is nothing more than the fulfillment of Jesus’ Great Commission to His
Disciples, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations… Teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I have commanded you” (Matt. 28:19-20)
This is what we, as Born Again Christians are called to do… Impact the culture of
societies (The External Realm).
The societies of the world are the external realm of the Kingdom of God and our job is
to influence these societies until their culture resembles the culture of Heaven.
The Kingdom of God is God’s Dominion over this 4-fold Realm:
Heaven (The Spiritual Realm)
Earth (The Physical Realm)
Man’s Heart (The Internal Realm)
Society’s Culture (The External Realm)
This is the fullness of the Kingdom of God.
When God completely rules all four of these realms His Dominion will once more be
Then we can truly say, “The Kingdom of God has come.”
Can You Be Gay And Christian At The Same Time?
Can you be both Gay and Christian at the same time?
The answer is both yes and no.
I’m not being evasive or politically correct.
This is a complex issue and an accurate answer depends on the perspective you’re looking at it from.
Let me explain:
The first perspective is to look at the question from the point of view that the person is already a Christian and we ask:
Can someone be Gay and Christian at the same time? The answer is yes!
Can you be a Christian and be a thief at the same time? Many Christians refuse to pay their Tithes and give Offerings to God and God condemns this in the book of Malachi chapter 3 verse 8 calling them “Robbers.”
Can a Christian be a Liar? Some Christians habitually lie on their Tax Return Forms every year or practice lying as part of their job – The Receptionist who says her boss is not in, knowing full well he’s seated right in his office.
Can you be a Christian and a Fornicator? Some Christians practice pre-marital sex as though God has changed his laws to suit this 21st century hedonistic culture.
What’s my point?
Being born again, which is to become a Christian is only 1/3 of your journey of salvation.
After the born again experience the Bible teaches us that we now have to work out our salvation with fear and trembling. (Phil 2:12)
Working out your salvation means building Christian character day by day through the decisions you make and how much you’re willing to die to your own selfish pleasures in order to honor God.
Each of the examples above represents someone who’s decided to receive the first part of salvation but has not been very successful in working on the second part.
They are contented to become born again and have their spirits transformed but not do the necessary work to have their soul saved also.
The Salvation of the Soul
There are three levels of salvation:
The salvation of the spirit – Justification.
The salvation of soul – Sanctification.
The salvation of body – Glorification. (See Romans 8:30 & 1st Corinthians 6:11)
After you experience justification through being born again your spirit is now re-created in the image of God and you have the nature of God on the inside of you. You are saved and on your way to Heaven and nothing can change that.
It’s a permanent work done by God.
The first part of your salvation journey is over, now here comes part two.
God says you have to begin doing something for yourself. You have to start saving your own soul.
This may sound like a contrary doctrine until you understand that your soul and your mind are one and the same thing.
The Hebrew word for soul in Genesis chapter 2 verse 7 is “Nephesh” meaning “Mind or Mental Creature” the Greek word for soul is “Psuche” from which we get “Psychic, Psychosis and Psychology” all pertaining to the mind.
So, “saving your soul” and “renewing your mind” is exactly the same concept and the Bible says a lot about renewing your mind. This is the second level of salvation called sanctification – separation from the seduction of Sin.
As a matter of fact James says, “…receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.” (Jam 1:21)
James was speaking to Christians – People who already had their spirits saved by being born again! And he was telling them they needed to do something to save their souls.
So, can someone be a Christian and not walk according to the truth of the word of God? Yes!
Can someone be a Christian and not live according to the principles of the kingdom of God? Yes!
Can someone be a Christian and adopt a Gay lifestyle at the same time? Yes!
Backslide Into Homosexuality
I know of a man of God who preached and taught the word of God with power and revelation and who backslid and practiced homosexuality for some time before he repented and turned again to the Lord. For a time he was both Gay and Christian.
Can someone be Gay and Christian at the same time? Yes they can!
Did he lose his salvation while being Gay and then regain it after? Of course not! You can’t jump in and out of being born of God. If you’re a son of God you are a son permanently.
Salvation is eternal!
There’s no going back and forth with the recreation of your spirit, once it’s done it’s done forever. You may certainly go in and out of fellowship with God but never in and out of relationship with Him.
So, can you be a Christian and practice a Gay lifestyle? As wrong and perverted as this is, yes you can.
The explanation given above is valid if we look at the question from the first perspective, which is, you’re already a Christian and you backslide into a homosexual lifestyle. Yes, this is possible.
As an addendum to this line of reasoning let me explain that this scenario may result from someone being a homosexual before becoming born again but never getting specific deliverance from the spirits of homosexuality and sexual perversion which resurfaced and attacked him during a period of weakness in his life.
This happens all the time with Christians who were living in sexual bondage or some other type of perverted lifestyle like Drugs or the Occult, before getting saved.
There must be specific deliverance from specific demons after leading such a lifestyle because these types of lifestyles open specific doorways in your life for demonic infestation and eventually possession.
I was involved with the Occult for eight years before becoming born again and received deliverance from demonic spirits several months after becoming saved. I have some personal experience in dealing with demons so what I’m writing here is not something I learned in Bible School – I never went to Bible School… This is years of experience and a comprehensive knowledge of the Word of God.
Now, let’s look at it from the second perspective.
Someone is Gay and wants to become a Christian. Can they remain Gay and be a Bible-believing Christian? No, they cannot!
Can someone be Gay and Christian at the same time? No!
If you are Gay and want to become a Christian you have to be willing to give up your Gay lifestyle, plain and simple.
Here’s the reason why:
Your lifestyle is based on a particular philosophy or world-view, a mental paradigm which is contrary to the nature of God and the principles which govern His kingdom.
In order to become a Christian you must give up not primarily our lifestyle but the philosophy upon which your lifestyle is based and when you give up the philosophy the lifestyle will follow.
This is actually what repentance is.
Repentance is an exchange of philosophies or world-views, it’s a profound paradigm shift which leads to a lifestyle transformation.
There are two aspects to homosexuality… The philosophy and the lifestyle.
To become a Christian you first have to give up (repent of) the philosophy and the lifestyle will follow.
That’s the purpose of the indwelling Holy Spirit, He empowers you to live in holiness as you walk in submission to God’s will day by day.
The Constitution of the Kingdom of God
Both John the Baptist and Jesus came saying the same thing – “Repent! For the kingdom of God is at hand.”
The kingdom of God represents a particular world-view or philosophy which everyone needs to adopt in order to enter into a relationship with God.
Just as there are three levels of salvation there are also three dimensions to your relationship with God.
1) When you become a Christian, God becomes your Father and you become His son.
2) Becoming a Christian also means you’re engaged in spiritual warfare with demonic forces out to destroy everything godly so God also becomes your Commander-in-Chief and you become His soldier in a spiritual war.
3) God is a King and Jesus Christ is described as “The King of Kings” so when we enter into relationship with God we also become His Subjects. Another way to say subjects is to say Citizens.
A kingdom is a type of government, a government rules a nation and every nation has citizens – We are citizens of the Kingdom or Government of God.
Referring to Christians, the Bible says, “But you are a chosen people… a holy nation, a people belonging to God…” 1 Peter 2:9
Every government also has a Constitution. The principles outlined and expounded on in the Holy Bible form the Constitution of the Government of God.
The constitution of every nation is formed by the philosophy of its government.
The Philosophy of the Constitution
The Framers of the US Constitution had a philosophy of a land of freedom from tyranny and formed a Constitution based upon that philosophy.
The Bible instructs our philosophy or world-view as Christians and as loyal subjects or citizens of God’s government we live and die by its teachings and principles.
Every soldier/citizen/son of America who died in battle did so because they believed in something, and that something is enshrined in the US Constitution; that it’s the right of citizens of the United States to defend their freedom and way of life.
For the Christian it is precisely the same… only more so.
We are citizens of a government that will one day supersede every other government on the planet. We are subjects of a King who is the greatest Ruler the universe has ever seen or will ever see.
This is why you cannot remain Gay and become a Christian. Your basic philosophy violates the constitution of the kingdom to which you want to become a citizen.
Here’s what the constitution says and I quote, “It is disgusting for a man to have sex with another man.” (Leviticus 18:22) (The Contemporary English Version)
And here’s the reasoning behind this philosophy.
“From heaven God shows how angry he is with all the wicked and evil things that sinful people do to crush the truth. They know everything that can be known about God, because God has shown it all to them. God’s eternal power and character cannot be seen. But from the beginning of creation, God has shown what these are like by all he has made.
That’s why those people don’t have any excuse. They know about God, but they don’t honor him or even thank him. Their thoughts are useless, and their stupid minds are in the dark. They claim to be wise, but they are fools. They don’t worship the glorious and eternal God.
So God let these people go their own way. They did what they wanted to do, and their filthy thoughts made them do shameful things with their bodies. They gave up the truth about God for a lie, and they worshiped God’s creation instead of God, who will be praised forever. Amen…
…God let them follow their own evil desires. Women no longer wanted to have sex in a natural way, and they did things with each other that were not natural. Men behaved in the same way. They stopped wanting to have sex with women and had strong desires for sex with other men. They did shameful things with each other, and what has happened to them is punishment for their foolish deeds.” (Romans 1:18-27) (The Contemporary English Version)
In verse 26 of the King James Version it says, “vile affections” instead of “evil desires” the meaning of the word “vile” from the Greek among other things is “with contempt for myself”
I found that to be particularly interesting.
Created in God’s Image
Part of the underlying reason for homosexual behavior is having contempt for oneself.
This makes perfect sense.
You see, to embrace the doctrine of homosexuality you would have to, by default, reject the very image of God inside of you and reject His most basic purpose for your life which is to reproduce other beings in His image and likeness.
How could you obey the most primary of all commands in the Bible if as a woman you refuse to marry and have sex with a man? And as a man you refuse to marry and have sex with a woman?
The very first instruction God gave to the human race was to reproduce so as to multiply and fill the universe with His image. This is part of the fundamental purpose of mankind – To reproduce the image of God.
Here’s what the Bible says, “So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth…” (Gen 1:27-28)
The homosexual philosophy is at its heart anti-Biblical, anti-God and anti-Christian!
So, when the Gay person says to me they love God and believe in the Bible I know that’s a lie. The fact that they would even say this tells me they have no understanding of the principles of the kingdom of God and of His Constitution.
Sadly, they may really think they love God and believe His word but in reality they don’t, they’re being deceived by the devil.
Enemies of God
Don’t feel alienated if you’re Gay and reading this because the Bible actually says that all of us human beings are enemies of God before we are saved.
I was in your position before I understood this and so is every person on the planet. We are all enemies of God before we accept Jesus Christ as our Redeemer. It doesn’t matter how much we think we love God! Jesus said, “If you love me keep my commandments.”
Speaking to us Christians, Paul, the Apostle says, “And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight.” Colossians 1:21-22
You see, we all were once enemies of God – This is what it means to be born in sin!
Sister and Brother Gay Person, the truth is you have already rejected God and His Doctrine to the point that you no longer see yourself as created in His image and to fulfill His purpose.
By your actions you deny the most basic purpose of God for your life which is to reproduce other beings in God’s image and to lead them in worshiping Him.
This is your primary purpose for existence so when you as a male, say that you no longer have any desire for women you’re declaring to God that you reject His purpose for your existence and reject His authority over your life.
You need to repent.
As does each of us – We all need to repent.
First, every human being needs to perform the initial act of repentance where we surrender that particular doctrine or philosophy which is contrary to the principles of the kingdom of God – the one that’s preventing us from entering into relationship with God as Father, and totally embrace the philosophy of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Jesus said, “I am the way…” and He’s the only way to enter into a relationship with God and His Kingdom.
Secondly, we need to repent on a daily basis of all our other thought patterns and mental habits that are contrary to God’s principles and embrace and practice those that are consistent with His nature and His character.
Can a Gay person remain a practicing Homosexual and become a Bible-believing Christian? No. Absolutely not!
He or she needs to repent, that is to exchange his or her homosexual philosophy and embrace and act upon the philosophy of the Kingdom of God – Specifically the Gospel of Jesus Christ to become Born Again!
The Missionary’s Position
Brenda spilled the coffee on the brand new tablecloth in the kitchen. She couldn’t believe what she was reading!
“Oh my God! How could this happen?” She called out to her husband who was just descending the stairs.
“How could what happen?” Jason quizzed her.
“Do you remember that guy we met at the convention last month? His name was…”
“Marty somebody,” Jason finished her sentence, “yeah I remember him, he was kinda hard to forget. With all that in-your-face proselytizing about becoming Missionaries and spreading the word of God to the world and all that kingdom stuff! What about him?”
“He’s dead!” Brenda’s voice cracking a little under the weight of emotion.
“What??!! How…? Whe…?”
“It says here,” Brenda interrupted him, “that on the night of October 22nd Martin Cyzinsky was robbed and shot to death by person or persons unknown. The police are theorizing that he stopped to give someone a lift and was carjacked.”
Brenda put down the paper and stared at her husband in awkward silence as he quietly sat facing her.
His face betrayed the guilt he felt inside, the same guilt he saw reflected in his wife’s eyes.
They had ridiculed Marty that night as he attempted sharing on the importance of representing Christ and spreading the “true gospel,” as he put it.
They rationalized that he was simply naïve to think that one person could make any measurable difference in the world!
What, with all the famine and war and diseases running rampant globally it made more sense to secure your own position first, instead of running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off trying to right every wrong in the world, after all, “Charity begins at home,” Jason remembered saying to him!
“But it ends abroad,” Marty had countered. “The average Christian,” he continued, “gets all he can and ‘cans’ all he gets, it’s only about me, myself and I, his charity doesn’t end abroad it ends right where it started… At HIS home!”
“I don’t want to start preaching (“Too late,” Jason thought) but the great commission says GO into all the world and make disciples of men, if we…!”
“My point is this,” Brenda cut him short, “how can we leave our own homes undone and try to tell other people how to run theirs? What right do we have to tell other people to leave their religion and join ours when…?”
“That’s your problem right there,” Marty returned, his voice rising in pitch and volume, “you’re trying to convert people to a religion when that was NEVER God’s intention!”
Jason and Brenda stared at him quizzically.
“If the average Christian couple is in debt and their marriage is limping along how can they go tell Hakeem who owns a successful business and is happily married to stop serving Allah and come serve Jesus?”
“So he can have what THEY have?!”
“Adam never lost a religion, he lost a kingdom!” Marty asserted. “That’s why your religion doesn’t work for you! Jesus never preached a religion, He preached about A KINGDOM!”
“REPENT! FOR THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS AT HAND!” He declared evangelistically!
The conversation had started getting a little too uncomfortable for Brenda and Jason so they’d made excuses and left Marty still trying to convince them they were hearing and sharing the wrong message.
“Naïve and deluded,” Jason labeled him after departing his presence.
“Zealous and dangerous,” Brenda added.
But now he was dead.
And strangely, it seemed that in his death his message took on new life!
So, as they sat across from each other reflecting on that meeting with the Missionary, Brenda couldn’t help but wonder after his words, “Not a religion BUT a kingdom! The message of ‘The Kingdom’ is what the world needs,” He had pleaded with them!
“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come,” He had quoted Jesus’ words from Matt. 24:14.
Now, with the darkening coffee stain as a reminder of the mess their life was in, Jason and Brenda found themselves seriously considering the Missionary’s position on the quality of the message they had been fed and why they were reluctant to share it with others.
It’s not about a religion that doesn’t work, it never was… It’s all about a kingdom lost and found!
Mansions In Heaven: What Are They Really?
Jesus said, “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you.” (John 14:2)
This refers to the office of a servant of God who dispenses his duties well.
In this scripture, the word “house” in the Greek is “oikia” (pronounced oy-kee’-ah) and means “household” and by extension “family” the word “mansions” is “mone” (pronounced ‘mon-ay’) and means “residence” (the act or the place).
Now follow me closely.
The meaning of the word “mansions” is “residence” but it can either be the place of residence or the act of residence.
For my almost 30 years as a Christian I’ve heard it taught as a place of residence, Christians are always referring to their “mansion in heaven” and the “keys to their mansion.”
But does that really make sense?
In my Father’s house there are many mansions. If a mansion by definition is a very large house, how can there be many mansions in a house?
If we are honest with ourselves we must confess that taken literally this scripture makes no sense at all. Does it?
Even if we expand the meaning of the word ‘house’ to mean ‘household’ or ‘family’ it’s still like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.
There must be another interpretation for this scripture and I believe I have it!
The word residence” really refers to the act of residence and not a place of residence.
Are you familiar with the terms, “a doctor in residence” and “a doctor completing his residency?”
Here’s some interesting information from the World Book Dictionary.
The word “Residence” means – The seat of some power or activity.
“Residency” means – The position of a doctor who continues practicing in a hospital after completing his internship.
“Resident” means – An official sent to live in a foreign land to represent his country.
Interesting, isn’t it?
It’s within this context that Jesus made the statement, “In My Father’s house there are many mansions,” (John 14:2)
What He was in fact saying is that, “within the Family or Government of God, there are many official positions of authority!”
Many “Residencies” are available! (Since God is a King His family forms the Government)
Right now, here on earth we are spiritual interns in ministry (Mayors, Governors and Presidents-in-training) and if we successfully complete our internship, then when Jesus sets up His Government on earth during the millennial reign, we’ll no longer be interns but we’ll be ministers “in residence!”
Do you see it?
In the government of God (during the millennial reign) there are many residencies (official positions of authority), stop bickering and fighting among your selves for bigger congregations and titles just to be recognized by men (it doesn’t make sense)!
This is the message Jesus is trying to get across to us in this verse!
He was also saying that the qualified servant of God can occupy and function in any one of those positions if they show themselves approved here and now.
He didn’t even stop there; look further at the rest of the scripture!
“I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” (John 14:2,3)
The word “place” is translated from the Greek word, “topos” and means “special position” so “to prepare a place” means “to prepare a special position.”
The word “receive” is paralambano” and means “to assume an office,” the word “unto” is translated from “pros” which means “by the side of” and the phrase “may be” is the Greek word “o” which means “should stand.”
So the verse, “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”
Can be interpreted:
“There are many positions of authority in my Father’s Government: If this weren’t true I wouldn’t say so. I’m leaving to prepare a special place for you now. And if I’m doing this, then I will return and take you with me to stand in that position of authority at my side.
Bearing in mind that Jesus made this statement just after one of His ministers (Judas) left to betray Him and consequently abandon his official position, the understanding is clear.
Jesus is indicating to the rest of His ministers that if they remain faithful to the ministry which they are called and selected for, then at the appointed time He will grant them the right to assume the official offices in which they should stand and for which they have been training.
Matthew 22:14 seals the deal when it says, “For many are called, but few are chosen.” In this verse, being ‘called’ and ‘chosen’ has nothing to do with becoming a Christian or getting saved!
This verse has been widely misquoted and largely misunderstood!
It’s actually speaking about the multitudes who have been called to a particular ministry and the few who have stayed with the training long enough to be commissioned to that ministry.
The word “called” from the Greek is “kletos” (pronounced ‘klay-tos’) meaning “invited” and the word “chosen” is “eklektos” (pronounced ‘ek-lektos’) meaning “selected.”
There’s a big difference between being invited to and being selected for a ministry!
It’s evident that this is not the salvation of the spirit being referred to, because Rom 8:30 states, “Moreover, whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.”
Justification from sin is the foundation of the salvation of the spirit!
This scripture leaves absolutely no room for misunderstanding! It clearly says, whom He called, He justified! Indicating that all whom He called, He justified!
Within the context of the English language, there is no other reasonable and intelligent way to understand this verse!
It says absolutely nothing about some or few or many… nothing! Whom He called, He justified, whom He justified, He glorified! This encompasses all! Do you see it?
So, the phrase, “many are called but few are chosen” rightly indicates that of all whom the Lord has invited to a particular ministry, there are but a few who will answer the call and stay with the training long enough to faithfully function in that ministry and receive the just rewards of their labors i.e. Their mansion in heaven or their official position of authority in the Kingdom of God.
