Can a born again Christian lose his/her salvation and go to hell?
How secure is salvation through Jesus Christ?
We tell people they need to be saved in order to miss out on hell and go to heaven but how sure is this promise of safety?
How permanent is Christian salvation?
The Bible says, “And being made perfect, he (Jesus Christ) became the author of eternal salvation,” Heb 5:9.
The Bible says salvation is eternal!
Do you know what eternal means? It means without beginning or ending.
Your salvation has no beginning and it has no ending.
Christian Salvation CANNOT end!
Time began with the creation of the world and the bible says, “…He hath chosen us in him before the foundation (creation) of the world,” Eph 1:4.
The average Christian thinks they “got saved” when they said the Sinner’s Prayer and received Jesus into their heart, but your salvation actually began long before that.
When you received Jesus, all you did was activate the experience of Christian Salvation in your life and began to enjoy the benefits, but in reality you were saved the moment God said that you were saved, which was in eternity before time began!
Let me illustrate this point for you:
The Most Exclusive Spa
Imagine a Spa, the most expensive, exclusive Spa in the whole world.
It’s got all the amenities you can think of; Sauna, Tanning Salon, Personal Masseuse, Health Food Bar, all the most modern exercise equipment you can name, this Spa has it all, however, the lifetime membership fee is one million dollars.
Fortunately I’m rich, so I buy my wife a lifelong membership to this Spa and give her the key to her own private entrance but she never goes to the Spa and uses it.
Is she a bona fide member of the Spa? Yes, her membership fee is fully paid for!
Is her name recorded in the Membership Roster? Yes, her name is written in the Book!
But has she ever experienced the Spa? No!
Has she ever enjoyed the benefits of the Spa? No!
She never used her key to activate her membership! She never walked through the door and used the facilities.
God has purposed many people to experience salvation – They’re saved – Their membership fee has already been fully paid for – But they will never experience salvation until they use the key to activate their membership!
The Key and The Door
Faith is the key that unlocks the door to their salvation.
“The just shall live by faith,” Rom. 1:17
What’s the door? Jesus said, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved…,” John 10:9
Confessing your faith in Jesus Christ is using your key to unlock the door to your salvation.
Faith is the Key – Jesus is the Door!
When someone receives salvation today they are simply using their faith/key to activate their salvation/membership but they actually became a member when their membership fee was paid.
When was their fee paid? When exactly did Jesus die to pay for your sin?
The bible says Jesus is, “…The Lamb who was killed BEFORE the world was made,” Rev. 13:8. (NLT)
There are things that happen in time, in the natural realm that are merely reflections of what has already taken place in eternity, in the spiritual realm!
The spirit realm is more real than the physical realm in which we live.
The Authority to Start and Stop
Continuing with our Spa analogy, your salvation/membership began before the world was made, before time existed, in the realm of the eternal, but you only activated your salvation/membership when you heard the good news about the benefits of salvation/membership.
However, the DECISION to start your salvation/membership WAS NOT YOURS; this was decided by SOMEONE ELSE who had the power to start it.
The ONLY PERSON who can start or stop your salvation/membership is The One who paid the membership fee!
He started it, therefore only He can stop it!
He paid the membership fee so you’re IN, if He withdraws the membership fee you’re OUT!
And He can’t do that, “For God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn,” Rom. 11:29 (NLT)
Salvation is a gift; therefore, the word of God prohibits God from ever taking it back.
God decided to save you BEFORE He created you!
The decision to start your salvation was not yours.
God paid for that with the precious life of His own Son, He NEVER gave you the authority to start or stop your membership; He retains full control over that.
The only control you have is how soon you start experiencing the benefits of salvation and what sort of member you’re going to become.
Are you going to become a nominal member, just having your name on the roster or one who participates fully and becomes an exemplary member, reading and studying the “Club’s Instruction Manual,” attending all the “Membership Meetings,” maybe even excelling to the point of becoming an “Instructor” yourself, mentoring younger members as they join “The Club?”
Salvation is eternal, it has no beginning in reference to time as we know it, therefore it has no ending either.
Christian salvation is eternal and cannot end – Therefore it is permanent and cannot be lost.
Jesus said, “My sheep know my voice, and I know them. They follow me, and I give them eternal life, so that they will never be lost. No one can snatch them out of my hand.
My Father gave them to me, and he is greater than all others. No one can snatch them from his hands.” John 10:27-29 (Bold Type & Italics Mine)
After you’re saved the Holy Spirit keeps you and your salvation safe from the inside, then you and your salvation are kept safe in Jesus’ hands which are kept safe in God the Father’s hands, who Jesus said IS GREATER THAN ALL… Explain to me again how you can lose your salvation?
True Christianity is not just what we do BUT who we are!
Becoming a Christian is having your inner nature transformed from mere human to incorporate the divinity of God.
It is having the God of the Universe, Creator of Heaven and Earth adopt you into His family and call you “His child” once more.
It’s changing your nature, your ancestry and inheritance all at once.
The regeneration of your spirit, which occurs in the born again process, changes your nature from being Adam-like to Christ-like.
God the Father’s adoption of you as His own child effectively separates you from Adam’s ancestry and consequently frees you from his curse, which is everlasting separation from God in hell.
Because your ancestry has been changed from Adam to Christ who is the Seed of Abraham, your inheritance is also changed from Adam’s curse to Abraham’s blessing!
So, you now have a new nature, new identity, a new destiny and a new inheritance in Christ Jesus.
This is not religious talk.
These changes affect your everyday “normal” life if you understand their significance and learn to apply them.
Your Christianity is not just an aspect of who you are – It is who you are!
Being a Christian is more basic than being a Democrat or a Republican because by definition your first allegiance is to the Government of God and to the Constitution upon which that Government is built – Which is The Bible, The Word of God.
Being a Christian is more basic than being a Husband, Father, Wife or Mother; more basic than being a Son, a Daughter or a Student.
After you repented and had your nature changed by God, your Christian world-view should now provide your frame of reference for each of these offices mentioned above and should inform your every decision and action.
Being a Christian is more basic than being a man or a woman; “There is neither… male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Gal 3:28) In other words there is neither room for radical feminism nor male chauvinism in the kingdom of God.
“Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.” (Gen 5:2) God made male and female different but equal!
Being a Christian; what does that really mean?
Being a Christian transcends nationality, ethnicity and race. “There is neither Jew nor Greek… for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Gal 3:28)
It’s more basic than being Jamaican, Jewish or Japanese.
You are now a Citizen of the Kingdom of God. A kingdom is both a geographic realm and a type of government or political system. You’re a citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven before all other citizenships here on earth.
This is why the Roman Hierarchy wanted to eliminate Jesus; He threatened their power-base by exposing the people to another Political Ruler with a different political agenda – He taught them about God and God’s Government!
And He specifically taught the people to bear first allegiance to this new King and His new Kingdom – He said, “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God…”
This was and still is a very politically charged statement!
What does it really mean to be a Christian?
Being a Christian is more fundamental than being an American.
Your first allegiance is to God, to His Laws, His Constitution, His Culture and His Authority over your life.
This is what being a Christian is all about.
Being a Christian is not a religious function; it’s not performing certain rituals at certain times of the day or week or month or year.
It is about a living, current relationship with the One who created it all! The God of all that we see and know. He wants us to come back to Him in the intimate relationship of Father and Child.
Being a Christian is not some outdated concept for only those over 50 years old or for those in dire need of some spiritual crutch to hold on to.
Being a Christian is as much a 21st century concept as it was a 1st century concept.
This is true because of the incessant need of the human heart for belonging and of man’s search for meaning, for order and structure in the universe.
We run to and fro seeking out new and exotic explanations for the complexities and intricacies of life, while denying the simple truth that stares us right in the face.
God loves you and wants to have a real, loving relationship with you through His Son Jesus Christ.
All you need to do is to repent; change your mind so He can transform your spirit and your inner nature to resemble His.
This will be the beginning of the most incredible journey you have ever taken in your life and the really good part is… It lasts forever!
Can you be both Gay and Christian at the same time?
The answer is both yes and no.
I’m not being evasive or politically correct.
This is a complex issue and an accurate answer depends on the perspective you’re looking at it from.
Let me explain:
The first perspective is to look at the question from the point of view that the person is already a Christian and we ask:
Can someone be Gay and Christian at the same time? The answer is yes!
Can you be a Christian and be a thief at the same time? Many Christians refuse to pay their Tithes and give Offerings to God and God condemns this in the book of Malachi chapter 3 verse 8 calling them “Robbers.”
Can a Christian be a Liar? Some Christians habitually lie on their Tax Return Forms every year or practice lying as part of their job – The Receptionist who says her boss is not in, knowing full well he’s seated right in his office.
Can you be a Christian and a Fornicator? Some Christians practice pre-marital sex as though God has changed his laws to suit this 21st century hedonistic culture.
What’s my point?
Being born again, which is to become a Christian is only 1/3 of your journey of salvation.
After the born again experience the Bible teaches us that we now have to work out our salvation with fear and trembling. (Phil 2:12)
Working out your salvation means building Christian character day by day through the decisions you make and how much you’re willing to die to your own selfish pleasures in order to honor God.
Each of the examples above represents someone who’s decided to receive the first part of salvation but has not been very successful in working on the second part.
They are contented to become born again and have their spirits transformed but not do the necessary work to have their soul saved also.
The Salvation of the Soul
There are three levels of salvation:
The salvation of the spirit – Justification.
The salvation of soul – Sanctification.
The salvation of body – Glorification. (See Romans 8:30 & 1st Corinthians 6:11)
After you experience justification through being born again your spirit is now re-created in the image of God and you have the nature of God on the inside of you. You are saved and on your way to Heaven and nothing can change that.
It’s a permanent work done by God.
The first part of your salvation journey is over, now here comes part two.
God says you have to begin doing something for yourself. You have to start saving your own soul.
This may sound like a contrary doctrine until you understand that your soul and your mind are one and the same thing.
The Hebrew word for soul in Genesis chapter 2 verse 7 is “Nephesh” meaning “Mind or Mental Creature” the Greek word for soul is “Psuche” from which we get “Psychic, Psychosis and Psychology” all pertaining to the mind.
So, “saving your soul” and “renewing your mind” is exactly the same concept and the Bible says a lot about renewing your mind. This is the second level of salvation called sanctification – separation from the seduction of Sin.
As a matter of fact James says, “…receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.” (Jam 1:21)
James was speaking to Christians – People who already had their spirits saved by being born again! And he was telling them they needed to do something to save their souls.
So, can someone be a Christian and not walk according to the truth of the word of God? Yes!
Can someone be a Christian and not live according to the principles of the kingdom of God? Yes!
Can someone be a Christian and adopt a Gay lifestyle at the same time? Yes!
Backslide Into Homosexuality
I know of a man of God who preached and taught the word of God with power and revelation and who backslid and practiced homosexuality for some time before he repented and turned again to the Lord. For a time he was both Gay and Christian.
Can someone be Gay and Christian at the same time? Yes they can!
Did he lose his salvation while being Gay and then regain it after? Of course not! You can’t jump in and out of being born of God. If you’re a son of God you are a son permanently.
Salvation is eternal!
There’s no going back and forth with the recreation of your spirit, once it’s done it’s done forever. You may certainly go in and out of fellowship with God but never in and out of relationship with Him.
So, can you be a Christian and practice a Gay lifestyle? As wrong and perverted as this is, yes you can.
The explanation given above is valid if we look at the question from the first perspective, which is, you’re already a Christian and you backslide into a homosexual lifestyle. Yes, this is possible.
As an addendum to this line of reasoning let me explain that this scenario may result from someone being a homosexual before becoming born again but never getting specific deliverance from the spirits of homosexuality and sexual perversion which resurfaced and attacked him during a period of weakness in his life.
This happens all the time with Christians who were living in sexual bondage or some other type of perverted lifestyle like Drugs or the Occult, before getting saved.
There must be specific deliverance from specific demons after leading such a lifestyle because these types of lifestyles open specific doorways in your life for demonic infestation and eventually possession.
I was involved with the Occult for eight years before becoming born again and received deliverance from demonic spirits several months after becoming saved. I have some personal experience in dealing with demons so what I’m writing here is not something I learned in Bible School – I never went to Bible School… This is years of experience and a comprehensive knowledge of the Word of God.
Now, let’s look at it from the second perspective.
Someone is Gay and wants to become a Christian. Can they remain Gay and be a Bible-believing Christian? No, they cannot!
Can someone be Gay and Christian at the same time? No!
If you are Gay and want to become a Christian you have to be willing to give up your Gay lifestyle, plain and simple.
Here’s the reason why:
Your lifestyle is based on a particular philosophy or world-view, a mental paradigm which is contrary to the nature of God and the principles which govern His kingdom.
In order to become a Christian you must give up not primarily our lifestyle but the philosophy upon which your lifestyle is based and when you give up the philosophy the lifestyle will follow.
This is actually what repentance is.
Repentance is an exchange of philosophies or world-views, it’s a profound paradigm shift which leads to a lifestyle transformation.
There are two aspects to homosexuality… The philosophy and the lifestyle.
To become a Christian you first have to give up (repent of) the philosophy and the lifestyle will follow.
That’s the purpose of the indwelling Holy Spirit, He empowers you to live in holiness as you walk in submission to God’s will day by day.
The Constitution of the Kingdom of God
Both John the Baptist and Jesus came saying the same thing – “Repent! For the kingdom of God is at hand.”
The kingdom of God represents a particular world-view or philosophy which everyone needs to adopt in order to enter into a relationship with God.
Just as there are three levels of salvation there are also three dimensions to your relationship with God.
1) When you become a Christian, God becomes your Father and you become His son.
2) Becoming a Christian also means you’re engaged in spiritual warfare with demonic forces out to destroy everything godly so God also becomes your Commander-in-Chief and you become His soldier in a spiritual war.
3) God is a King and Jesus Christ is described as “The King of Kings” so when we enter into relationship with God we also become His Subjects. Another way to say subjects is to say Citizens.
A kingdom is a type of government, a government rules a nation and every nation has citizens – We are citizens of the Kingdom or Government of God.
Referring to Christians, the Bible says, “But you are a chosen people… a holy nation, a people belonging to God…” 1 Peter 2:9
Every government also has a Constitution. The principles outlined and expounded on in the Holy Bible form the Constitution of the Government of God.
The constitution of every nation is formed by the philosophy of its government.
The Philosophy of the Constitution
The Framers of the US Constitution had a philosophy of a land of freedom from tyranny and formed a Constitution based upon that philosophy.
The Bible instructs our philosophy or world-view as Christians and as loyal subjects or citizens of God’s government we live and die by its teachings and principles.
Every soldier/citizen/son of America who died in battle did so because they believed in something, and that something is enshrined in the US Constitution; that it’s the right of citizens of the United States to defend their freedom and way of life.
For the Christian it is precisely the same… only more so.
We are citizens of a government that will one day supersede every other government on the planet. We are subjects of a King who is the greatest Ruler the universe has ever seen or will ever see.
This is why you cannot remain Gay and become a Christian. Your basic philosophy violates the constitution of the kingdom to which you want to become a citizen.
Here’s what the constitution says and I quote, “It is disgusting for a man to have sex with another man.” (Leviticus 18:22) (The Contemporary English Version)
And here’s the reasoning behind this philosophy.
“From heaven God shows how angry he is with all the wicked and evil things that sinful people do to crush the truth. They know everything that can be known about God, because God has shown it all to them. God’s eternal power and character cannot be seen. But from the beginning of creation, God has shown what these are like by all he has made.
That’s why those people don’t have any excuse. They know about God, but they don’t honor him or even thank him. Their thoughts are useless, and their stupid minds are in the dark. They claim to be wise, but they are fools. They don’t worship the glorious and eternal God.
So God let these people go their own way. They did what they wanted to do, and their filthy thoughts made them do shameful things with their bodies. They gave up the truth about God for a lie, and they worshiped God’s creation instead of God, who will be praised forever. Amen…
…God let them follow their own evil desires. Women no longer wanted to have sex in a natural way, and they did things with each other that were not natural. Men behaved in the same way. They stopped wanting to have sex with women and had strong desires for sex with other men. They did shameful things with each other, and what has happened to them is punishment for their foolish deeds.” (Romans 1:18-27) (The Contemporary English Version)
In verse 26 of the King James Version it says, “vile affections” instead of “evil desires” the meaning of the word “vile” from the Greek among other things is “with contempt for myself”
I found that to be particularly interesting.
Created in God’s Image
Part of the underlying reason for homosexual behavior is having contempt for oneself.
This makes perfect sense.
You see, to embrace the doctrine of homosexuality you would have to, by default, reject the very image of God inside of you and reject His most basic purpose for your life which is to reproduce other beings in His image and likeness.
How could you obey the most primary of all commands in the Bible if as a woman you refuse to marry and have sex with a man? And as a man you refuse to marry and have sex with a woman?
The very first instruction God gave to the human race was to reproduce so as to multiply and fill the universe with His image. This is part of the fundamental purpose of mankind – To reproduce the image of God.
Here’s what the Bible says, “So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth…” (Gen 1:27-28)
The homosexual philosophy is at its heart anti-Biblical, anti-God and anti-Christian!
So, when the Gay person says to me they love God and believe in the Bible I know that’s a lie. The fact that they would even say this tells me they have no understanding of the principles of the kingdom of God and of His Constitution.
Sadly, they may really think they love God and believe His word but in reality they don’t, they’re being deceived by the devil.
Enemies of God
Don’t feel alienated if you’re Gay and reading this because the Bible actually says that all of us human beings are enemies of God before we are saved.
I was in your position before I understood this and so is every person on the planet. We are all enemies of God before we accept Jesus Christ as our Redeemer. It doesn’t matter how much we think we love God! Jesus said, “If you love me keep my commandments.”
Speaking to us Christians, Paul, the Apostle says, “And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight.” Colossians 1:21-22
You see, we all were once enemies of God – This is what it means to be born in sin!
Sister and Brother Gay Person, the truth is you have already rejected God and His Doctrine to the point that you no longer see yourself as created in His image and to fulfill His purpose.
By your actions you deny the most basic purpose of God for your life which is to reproduce other beings in God’s image and to lead them in worshiping Him.
This is your primary purpose for existence so when you as a male, say that you no longer have any desire for women you’re declaring to God that you reject His purpose for your existence and reject His authority over your life.
You need to repent.
As does each of us – We all need to repent.
First, every human being needs to perform the initial act of repentance where we surrender that particular doctrine or philosophy which is contrary to the principles of the kingdom of God – the one that’s preventing us from entering into relationship with God as Father, and totally embrace the philosophy of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Jesus said, “I am the way…” and He’s the only way to enter into a relationship with God and His Kingdom.
Secondly, we need to repent on a daily basis of all our other thought patterns and mental habits that are contrary to God’s principles and embrace and practice those that are consistent with His nature and His character.
Can a Gay person remain a practicing Homosexual and become a Bible-believing Christian? No. Absolutely not!
He or she needs to repent, that is to exchange his or her homosexual philosophy and embrace and act upon the philosophy of the Kingdom of God – Specifically the Gospel of Jesus Christ to become Born Again!
There are three distinctly different levels of salvation of which becoming ‘Born Again’ is part of the first!
Being Born Again means you have your spirit regenerated or recreated by the power of Almighty God. It means having your inner nature changed from mere human to incorporate the divinity of God.
The following verses from the Bible help substantiate the concept of men sharing in divinity.
“I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.” (Psalms 82:6)
“Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?” (John 10:34).
The purpose of becoming ‘Born Again’ is to regain something that was lost to the Human Race in the beginning of time.
Man was originally made in the image and likeness of God and connected to God through his spirit but when Adam sinned against his Creator the result was disconnection from God and a loss of identity.
This disconnection is called spiritual death, which is a separation from the life of God and an absence of the nature of God.
Now, because of God’s unchanging love for His children He created a way for us to be once more reconnected to Him and receive His divine nature. This happens through the process of being ‘Born again.’
How Exactly is a Person Born Again?
It happens like this. First, you hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
What is the Gospel?
It’s the good news that even though you were born spiritually separated from God and on your way to becoming permanently separated from Him in Hell, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, took the judgment of Adam’s sin upon Himself and died in the place of every human being.
He then rose from the dead three days later so that we could receive His righteousness in place of our guilt and be reconciled and reconnected to God, thus receiving His divine nature in order to live with Him forever in Paradise.
That’s the Gospel in a nutshell!
You hear it and when you do, God grants you the grace to receive it! You receive the message and it becomes a Seed planted in your spirit.
That Seed is the word you heard.
This Word-Seed contains the very nature of God because God and His Word are one; they cannot be separated. They are identical in nature. The bible says, “…The word was God.” (John 1:1)
Now, because the nature of God is inherent in His Word this means that His Word shares in His omnipotence; in other words, the Word of God has the power to create something out of nothing.
This is confirmed in the first chapter of Genesis when God was present and the Holy Spirit was moving upon the face of the waters but nothing happened until God spoke! The divine power inherent in God’s Word created everything we see.
So, the nature of God in the form of a Seed is planted in your spirit.
Now, God gives you the faith to act upon that Seed.
You act in faith by confessing out of your mouth the very thing He promised to do, believing He will do it as you totally submit to His will.
This is the application of your faith! Your confession (prayer) might go like this:
Prayer of Salvation:
Lord Jesus, you said in Revelation 3:20 that you’re standing outside the door of my heart, my life, and knocking for me to let you in. I now make a decision to open the door of my heart, my life and let you in. Please come in Lord Jesus and take complete control, forgive me and cleanse me from my sin and make me a child of God! I am sorry for every sin that I have ever committed. I believe in you and accept you alone as my Lord and Savior! Amen!
When you say these words from your heart totally believing they are true, it acts as a catalyst, germinating the Word-Seed or God-Seed if you will, releasing the life of God within you.
This process is such that the faith you apply acts on the God-Seed cracking it open, allowing the life of God to flow out into your spirit. The same thing happens when you plant a grain of corn into the ground.
The heat and moisture of the earth creates an environment that causes the corn seed to burst open releasing the life of the corn within and you have a brand new creation.
In this case your spirit is the earth and your faith and words are the heat and moisture, which creates the environment for the God-Seed to crack open releasing the life of God within you.
As this new life flows out, it completely pervades and engulfs your spirit transforming it. Where there was death there’s now life. Where there was old there’s now new. “…When this has taken place, then that which was said in the Writings will come true, Death is overcome by life,” 1 Cor 15:54. (Bible in Basic English)
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new,” 2Co 5:17.
Your old spirit ceases to exist and your new spirit lives! You have become a new creation.
Now, the life of God is synonymous with the nature of God, so as His life flows into you His nature is released. Receiving the life of God therefore, is the same as receiving the nature of God.
So, you now have a new nature. “…He has given to us the greatest and precious promises, that through these ye may become partakers of [the] divine nature,” 2 Pet 1:4 (Darby Translation)
The nature of God is Holiness, which means to be unique, other than everything else, sanctified, consecrated and set a part as extremely special. This is what God is and this is what you have become when you share in His nature.
You have become a different type of human being; one of God’s new creation.
You are unique, different, changed from natural to spiritual, from death to life… You are Born Again!
Now, here’s the key to this whole experience, if you miss this, YOU MISS EVERYTHING!
The release of your faith is what creates the miracle of the New Birth in you but faith is an action word. The bible definition of faith means doing something.
This is not to be confused with the works of the flesh or the works of the law but the bible does teach there is a work of faith.
It says, “Remembering without ceasing your work of faith…” (1st Thessalonians 1:3) So what is the work of faith which accompanies salvation?
In one word, it is…
If you repeat that prayer of salvation without repenting there’ll be no power released and no new birth.
You must repent, and repenting means a change of mind or exchanging one ideology for another.
Everyone has something they believe in that gives them a sense of spiritual security.
For most people that’s the purpose of their religion. It’s what provides the feeling of spiritual safety.
For the Atheist it’s the belief that God doesn’t exist.
If God doesn’t exist then there is no judgement to face at the end of time… that belief is what gives the Atheist the sense of safety from judgement.
Every human being has an ideological belief that gives them a sense of spiritual security and it is this very ideology that they MUST give up in order to embrace the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Salvation is a FREE GIFT but there must be an exchange to receive it .. This exchange is called repentance!
This is not to say that you can earn or buy your salvation but understanding this:
If your hands are already full, then you cannot grasp something new with your hands can you?
You’ve got to first let go of whatever you have in your hands before you can grasp something else.
Now, imagine salvation is a gift-wrapped present in a huge box and that box is being offered to you but your hands are already full with the huge box you are already holding on to… your current ideological belief.
This is what repentance is; it is a letting go of one thing to receive something else or a turning away from one thing to embrace something else, making a complete change of direction.
In my case 30 years ago, it was the belief in reincarnation, my belief in reincarnation was my spiritual support, it was the thing that gave me the sense of spiritual security from judgement.
So, when the Gospel of Jesus Christ was explained to me and the truth of it finally dawned on me, I found myself having a decision to make. Was I going to continue holding on to what I felt comfortable with or was I going to let go of that false doctrine and embrace the truth?
This is what every human being MUST face sooner or later.
Whenever we’re presented with the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ we must choose whether we’re going to let go of whatever we’re holding on to for spiritual security and embrace Jesus Christ fully or continue in the same direction we’re going, holding on to whatever spiritual crutch we have.
It doesn’t have to be a doctrine like reincarnation or something similar either; it could be anything that gives you a sense of spiritual safety.
Whatever the ideology, the essential aspect is… your will, are you going to surrender your will to God and let Him take control of your life?
If you do, your faith will bring the power of God on the scene and the miraculous will follow, if not, nothing will happen.
To sum this up, the power of God to effect miraculous change is activated only when we act in faith and acting in faith to receive salvation means turning your back on whatever you’ve been holding on to for spiritual security and embracing Jesus Christ and His sacrifice alone as your total means of salvation.
This, my friends, is what activates the power of God and causes a person to become “Born Again.”
As I said at the beginning, this is only the first level in the three-phased process of salvation but certainly the most important, because it guarantees you permanent entrance into the Kingdom of God and provides the foundation upon which the entire Christian experience is built.
This is why Jesus said, “You must be born again.” (John 3:7)
Understanding The 3 Levels of Salvation: Spirit, Soul & Body
“How could she act like that and still call herself a Christian?”
“Is he still saved, I heard he left his wife for another woman?”
You’ve probably heard these questions asked and maybe asked them yourself at some time. It’s true that people often act in ways that make you question their salvation.
And what about you?
Have you ever committed some really serious sin that has caused you to wonder if you’re going to make it into heaven? Have you backslidden from the Lord and can’t seem to find your way back?
Or are you searching for the truth and don’t know if Jesus Christ and Christianity is the way to go.
Well, I’ve got some good news for you, and it has nothing to do with your car insurance. (Maybe a little to do with your fire insurance)
Once you are born again your eternal destination is sealed! You’re bound for Heaven and you’re sure to get there!
Salvation comes in threes.
There are three levels to salvation, each affecting a different part of your being at a different time in a different way.
The three levels of salvation are:
(1) The regeneration of the spirit
(2) The restoration of the soul
(3) The transfiguration of the body.
In strictly biblical terms we call them:
1st Corinthians 6:11 says, “And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”
Romans 8:30 says, “Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.”
The Three-Phased Process of Salvation goes like this:
When you believe the Gospel, repent, confess and receive Jesus as your savior your spirit is regenerated and you become justified or just as if you had never sinned!
Here, your personal salvation experience begins!
As you submit to the Lordship of Christ and obey His commands in your thoughts, words and actions, your mind becomes renewed and restored to the principles of God’s kingdom and you become more and more separated from the influences of Sin.
This is called sanctification, and your salvation experience continues!
As you learn to allow the nature of Christ within you to have dominion over your flesh, the holiness of His presence within you begins to manifest externally through a Godly radiance that is perceived rather than actually seen.
In other words, His Spirit within you glows with the glory of God and this spiritual light attracts others and exposes them to the character of Christ in you! “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven,” Mt 5:16.
Here, the process of glorification begins!
It will escalate during The Rapture when God eliminates your tainted physical body and instantly recreates a brand new, totally sinless body, so that the inner glory of God, which was limited in it’s outward expression by your tainted body can now be fully manifested through your new, perfect body that’s sinless and literally made in heaven! This prepares you to enter Heaven with your new glorified body.
After entering heaven, you will experience the Judgment Seat of Christ and assigned your permanent status in the kingdom of God! (2 Co 5:10) You will have a specific level of Divine radiance emanating from your spirit through your transfigured body, which is consistent with your level of submission and obedience to God while on earth! (Dan. 12:3)
Here the process of glorification is complete. And so is the experience of salvation as it pertains to this age!
At the close of the Great Tribulation period and just before the New Millennium begins, you will return to earth with Christ, justified, sanctified and glorified! (Jude 1:14; Re 19:14) At that time, a completely new phase of your salvation experience will begin!
Here is a summary of The 3 Levels of Salvation:
(1) The Salvation of the Spirit – This is known as Justification (separation from the penalty of sin, which is eternity in the Lake of Fire).
This is instantaneous and qualifies you for heaven by changing your nature from human to divine, from Adamic to Christlike. It is a permanent, miraculous work that God accomplishes through the regeneration of the human spirit or becoming Born Again!
“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you” Eze 36:26
(2) The Salvation of the Soul – This is known as Sanctification (separation from the seduction of sin).
This is progressive and qualifies you to govern the earth with Jesus during His thousand-year reign by changing your character to resemble His. Since the soul and the mind are synonymous you accomplish this by renewing your mind in the word of God daily and by being consistently obedient to the Holy Spirit. This is what is meant by, “work out your salvation with fear and trembling.” It’s all about building Christian character day-by-day.
“Receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.” Jam 1:21
(3) The Salvation of the Body – This is known as Glorification (physical dominion over the effects of sin). This is progressive and qualifies you to reign with Christ in paradise on the New Earth for all eternity. The process of Glorification begins the moment you’re born again and continues every day you live in submission and obedience to God.
This gradual physical transformation is manifested in the ability to live above sickness and poverty in this present world. It will escalate during the translation of the body in the Rapture and will culminate after the Judgment Seat of Christ, ending in total victory over sin, sickness and death!
“Waiting for the time when we will take our place as sons, that is, the salvation of our bodies.” Rom 8:23 (Bible in Basic English)
Here’s a point to note: When a Christian falls into sin, no matter how grievous it is, it does not mean that he has lost his salvation.
You cannot lose your salvation!
All it means is that he still needs work done on his character (his soul). The salvation of his soul or mind is progressive; he’s in the process of becoming sanctified, just as his body is in the process of becoming glorified.
His new nature (born again spirit) means that he is saved (permanently bound for Heaven), but his character (soul/mind) needs more work done concerning the separation from the seduction of sin.
Another point to note: Knowing that our salvation is permanent and cannot be lost does not give us liberty to sin. It gives us a greater reason to live holy and please God our Father as a response to His amazing love.
Not only this, but we also understand that even though born again Christians are not in danger of hell, every one of us will still be judged by a Just and Holy God at the Judgment Seat of Christ!
We will all answer for how we lived our lives on earth and give an account of how we managed the gifts and resources God gave us.
If we’ve done well, great, but if not there’s going to be an evaluation of our lifestyle before God resulting in rewards or a lack of rewards accordingly.
The Bible says, “Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Matt 22:13)
“But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Matt 8:12)
This, my friends has nothing to do with the unsaved, notice carefully it’s the “children of the kingdom” that are cast into outer darkness. So, if you think the doctrine of “Once saved, always saved” is a license to sin, think again!
Every person that has ever lived on planet earth will stand before Almighty God and have their lives evaluated, one way or another.
